A Free Guide To Lift Etiquette
Before I start, this is not a free guide to lift etiquette. It is however about my experiences of lifts and you will get something free at the end of this.
I live in a block of flats, being on the fifth floor out of a possible twenty-three means I could take the stairs if I wanted without some kind of major injury, it also means that the lift is always going to be the realistic option.
On an average day I probably take the lift four times, and for at least two of these trips I am not alone.

So now for x amount of time I’m in a small confined space, one on one. Do I make conversation, if so what? Talk about the block and its architecture, too boring. I can’t bring myself to do the whole weather discussion, this or any other obvious small talk conversations kill me. I am no good at them and I detest them. It’s not that I’m unfriendly, in fact I think I’m quite the opposite, it’s just I can’t stand those conversations. I always feel as if both parties involved would rather not be involved, so why bother.
I have a tendency to over analyse things.
So undoubtedly my phone comes out the pocket, I read emails/texts/anything to make it seem I’m busy. At times I just end up scrolling through my contacts. Pointless
I always get the urge in these situations to do something which isn’t socially acceptable. Maybe scream something or bring up a very personal, deep conversation to see how they react. A friend of mine says every time he crosses a bridge he has an urge to throw his phone into the water, I think this is the same kind of thing. By the time I figure what I’m doing to say the bell dings and we’re at the fifth floor. This is just one of the many every day occurrences/struggles that occupy my mind.
Thank you for sticking with me
Now for something free…if you visit www.wethecommittee.bandcamp.com you can download a whole bunch of songs for free. Take just one, or all of them, whichever you prefer. For the most part they are demos we’ve been working on leading up to something a little more conclusive.
Anyway for now that’s all.
Take care
